Highlights of This Van:

* apx. $5,000! of new and recent service: details below (extensive investment in cosmetic rejuvenation and upgrades is in addition to this $5,000!)

* This amazing van has more than 61 inches of entry clearance and interior headroom! If you must have in the upper 50's, or more, you know how rare a van with these dimensions is. You may never see another van with these dimensions that does not have a tall roof.

* It looks like a 4x4, but its not. This is due to the amazingly, deeply lowered (9 inches) floor and the proper modifications to the chassis that were required to achieve this feat.

Very special and unique preface:

this van was created by the State of California for the quadriplegic man who traded it to me. He was at a University and discovered through a counselor that at the time (rules have since changed) he was entitled to whatever was reasonably needed in order for him to be allowed full opportunity to have a successful university experience. This van was created in order to meet the standards set by the state for a student in his circumstance. He participated with medical and vehicle professionals to design this van. It then took many months for the state-designated specialty shop to create it. Although it is a 2004, he actually took delivery of it as a brand new van in mid-2005. Please read below about this very unique van.

Options and Equipment

THE VAN: This amazing 3/4 ton van began as a standard length (not long or short) body with the famously awesome 5.4  Triton motor and auto with overdrive. It includes a nice array of comfort and convenience features such as: power windows, locks and mirrors; tilt wheel and cruise control; modern, custom, high-power custom CD stereo with accessory input jack; towing package; much more

GOODIES:

When I acquired this van as a trade in, it was very nice, but extremely plain outside. I decided that it was such a darn nice and special van that it was worthy of investing into making it extra sharp, updated and upgraded. There has now been quite a package of cosmetic improvements added to it. Here is the list of brand new items that made this van go from plain...to darn sharp: custom wheels and tires of proper, larger height and width; wide side moldings; custom graphics/striping package; new front bumper, chrome grill and composite headlights; new chrome rear step bumper; aluminum assist-steps for driver and passenger. (retail value of this extensive cosmetic upgrade package is 3-4 thousand)

MOBILITY:

Preface: you may not know the following facts, which are very relevant considering the features this van has:

* Many wheelchair accessible full size vans achieve acceptable entry and interior dimensions via a lowered floor, versus a tall roof, which is what most folks imagine is what is needed. Most of the mobility vans with lowered floor have been adjusted by 4 inches, some are 6 and VERY rarely their floor has been lowered 8 inches. Notably, due to the varied design of full size vans, such lowered floors can ONLY take place on Fords, not on Dodge or GM.

* There are two ways that roofs and doorways can be modified in order to create extra clearance when entering. More than 90 percent of the time this occurs via a tall roof and what are called tall doors. Such tall roofs and doors work fine for many people, but the tall roof creates limitations that are unacceptable for many folks, such as: cant park under most carports; cant get into most home garages; cant go into most drive-thrus at fast food places; cant go into carwashes; cant go into most parking garages; etc; etc.

* More than 90% of personal use (not being used for commercial/institutional/business) wheelchair vans have only a 600 pound capacity lift, which is not suitable for certain large people and/or very heavy wheelchairs. (This van is 800)

About this specific van and its mobility features:

This van has a combination of features that is so rare that I have not seen one van in 7 years that matches its unique offering of capability, in a van without a tall roof and tall doors.

* This is the only van I have ever known of with a floor that has been lowered 9 inches! (I have seen very few that were lowered 8, as most are 4 and some are 6). This lowered area is in the general middle section of the van, when entering from the side. The engineering, modifications and labor involved in this process was beyond any I have ever seen.

* This van has a feature that a small number of Ford mobility vans had during apx a 10-year period. There is a raised section of roof made of steel at the entry area only, which creates apx 4 inches extra entry clearance. This unique roof modification creates not only entry clearance, but also extends inward into the roof area apx 3 feet, creating extra headroom extending into the middle of the van.

* Has a very heavy duty Braun Millennium lift. This is the same lift that is common in big, ugly, super-duty and undesirably long mobility vans. It has an 800-pound capacity (great) and has a long and wide platform that accommodates very large wheelchairs.

* Due to being built in California, under the guidelines, which governed its design, it meets ADA standards, which most personal use wheelchair vans don't.

* This amazing van has 61-62 inches of entry clearance and interior headroom! This exceeds the entry clearance of any personal use van I have had in the past 7 years, by 2-3 inches...including ones with tall roofs! In a mobility van, where for some folks every inch matters for comfort, safety and convenience reasons, these dimensions are astounding!

History of Ownership

Certified

This vehicle is 'CERTIFIED': There are a combined 76 mechanical and cosmetic aspects  included in the Wheelchair Van Oasis "Certification" process.   A foundational step of the rejuvenation process is when each vehicle receives an extensive inspection by an objective, independent  third- party service and repair facility.  Suggested service, repairs and improvements are then performed by various professional specialists.   The  result is your assurance  that each of the 76 aspects  meets  or exceeds the condition level of good, or satisfactory.

For details regarding list of 76 cosmetic and mechanical aspects, please click here.

Each van does of course have various elements which exceed the promised level of good or satisfactory, which the "Certified" program assures.  Some are brand new improvements performed during rejuvenation.  And others are obvious service or repairs performed recently, prior to my ownership.  As for those, I only list here those positives which are certain, based on my either having a receipt, and/or due to being obvious to the inspecting-mechanic.  I refer to these as  "NEW OR RECENTLY SERVICED ASPECTS".

Here are the new and recent items:

New: Complete front brakes; rear brakes; super tires; wipers; lube and filter; service and adjust lift; HD battery; repair column

Recent: Transmission service; misc front axle and suspension pieces; serpentine belt; front-end alignment; all oxygen sensors; rear axle service and parts; fuel pump

Approximate retail value/cost of above-listed items: $ 5,000!
(extensive investment in cosmetic rejuvenation is in addition to this $ 5,000! )
