Options and Equipment

THE VAN: Began as a well-equipped LS model, which has the famously reliable, powerful and reasonably fuel-efficient 4.3 Vortec 6 cylinder motor and automatic with O/D.  This one has common full power and convenience features, plus many options such as: 3-way "Dutch Doors" in the rear; dual A/C; upgraded stereo; overhead console with multi-function trip computer; alloy wheels; dark windows; power seat; etc.

MOBILITY:  Note: this conversion was performed in 2002, therefore all components are several years newer than the van.  And the 2002 lift was replaced less than two years ago but has had less than one year of use.

THE COMPONENTS ARE: tall contoured roof with integrated interior shelf above driver/passenger area; taller sliding door with corresponding roof-notch for increased entry/exit clearance; sliding door is power open/close; floor anchor system with versatile anchor locations; power transfer seat with up/down/forward/back/spin; operating switches on dash and rear 1/4 panel for door and lift; has hand controls if desired; nearly new Ricon lift with an automatic split-folding platform, which allows for entry exit of passengers even when lift is stowed (wonderful feature)

History of Ownership

Has been in an upscale area of southern California since new.  Total of three owners.

History of Care

The Carfax report does indicate many times having been serviced at franchise dealership facilities.  As for receipts: I was unable to acquire receipts from the Estate.  As with each van I sell, it currently runs, drives and performs excellent.  And I will add that I drove it all the way from the San Diego area immediately after buying it , and it was just fine, even prior to any rejuvenation

As part of my 'Rick's rejuvenated'' process for wheelchair vans, each mobility component is inspected, serviced, adjusted and repaired (if needed) by the premium company in this area which exclusively cares for wheelchair vans.

Carfax Report Summary

(Carfax is a widely used database which indicates the history of a vehicle including accidents, prior owners, etc.)

Nothing negative on the report, and a nice fact is that it indicates many times having been serviced at prominent service facilities

HAS A REAL FRAME: this is a plus and it's accurate to consider this van to be more like a small version of a full size van, than a minivan. What do I mean by that? Astro vans are rear wheel drive and have a traditional frame, which most other minivans do not.  This configuration allows more legitimate potential for towing and is also a more solid (real frame) platform for a wheelchair conversion.  This all translates to a more solid and tighter van.

GROUND CLEARANCE:  Most minivan wheelchair vans such as Caravans, Voyagers and others have very limited ground clearance, but not this van.  Due to the headroom being gained via a raised roof rather than lowered floor (as most mini wheelchair vans are) it maintains its original ground clearance, which is actually more than the other minivans have even before getting a lowered floor.  Be careful, don't buy a lowered floor minivan if you ever need to drive off the pavement, go on a bumpy road, or have any steep angles to drive on...they will scrape and get damaged quickly.

* Each of my vans has a superb paint sealant as the final step of the extreme detail. If you were to have a professional apply a treatment the cost would be several hundred dollars.

Summary of this Gem

A rare item:  Super equipped with modern equipment, only 88k miles and Rejuvenated to top condition.  Notably, most minivan wheelchair vans are built on Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth bodies and achieve their interior headroom via a deeply lowered floor.  That is fine... if you never go off pavement, go over bumps, have much of a load, or go in and out of a steeply angled driveway. This minivan gets the headroom and entry clearance via the raised roof and tall door, thus preserving the ground clearance.  Note: no manufacturer has made a minivan with a true frame and rear wheel drive for several years.

This photograph clearly shows the notch in roof creating extra entry/exit clearance.
